The Brier Island Foundation is set up to support the local community! This includes partners who are already working on the ground to do good work on the Island. We have formally established partnerships with some of the leading organizations on Brier Island and will continue to build local connections. It is our role to support and raise the profile of these local organizations and to support them in their work. We are also open to helping new initiatives get off the ground that are of interest to the community.
The Westport Recreation Auxiliary is leading a project to develop a Multipurpose Court on Brier Island. The Foundation is helping raise funds through donations and grants for this project. All funds raised for the court will go the Westport Recreation Auxiliary.
The Brier Island Trails Committee (BITC) built the accessible 1.5km inland Trail loop. Now that the Big Meadow Bog Trail is complete, funds are needed to support the ongoing Trail maintenance. All funds raised for this purpose will go to BITC.
Save an Island Lighthouse (SAIL²) is a Subcommittee of the Islands Historical Society SAIL² focuses on restoration, community engagement, fundraising, and education in support of local lighthouses. All funds raised for lighthouse work will go directly to SAIL2.
There is a local Board Game club on the island that holds monthly events for the community. Funds raised for this project will support the hall booking fees charged by the Village of Westport to hold the event.
The Foundation is supporting a Working Group that will explore the idea of setting up an interpretive centre on Brier Island. This group is still accepting new members so reach out if you have any interest.
